I can HAVE a fresh 33# roll of Esab 7100 Ultra 1/16. I know how much everyone raves about it. However I would need to buy a new mig gun if I want to use it. That said, how thick of steel will this be used for. I used .045 Hobart 21B and it seems alot hotter than .045 solid wire. I am looking mainly for the min thickness steel practicle, but also opinions on the range. I would be using it with C25. I do have C100 but I thought it would run better on the C25."Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!! I sent him over to snag that MIC-4 while tbone wasn't looking!" - duaneb55"I have bought a few of Tbone's things unlike Stick-Man who helps himself" - TozziWelding"Stick-man"
Reply:I have run literally tons of it in .045 and .052, but I can't say I have ever run 1/16.  I would first look at esab's website for parameters, but I would imagin 1/4 would be the minimum thickness, but you would have an overly large weld bead that or moving quickly.  I think you would find it shines in 1/2 inch and above.  You can lay some wicked weaves with it that is for sure.  I would weld up 2 and 3 inch thick base rings with .045 and .052 depending upon which machine I was using.

Reply:I use .045 all the time at work and love that wire! I would also say that 1/16 would be better for 1/2'' or thicker. You might be able to get by with thinner but you will have to move fast. This stuff runs nice and hot.Ya gotta spend money to make money!
Reply:Also, ESAB specs that wire using 100% CO2, which is much cheaper gas than C25.metalmagpie
Reply:ESAB 7100 Ultra is rated for use with either plain CO2 or mixed gas C25.Listed parameters for 1/16 wire range from 150 ipm @ 24 V and 195 A (5.5 lbs/hr deposition rate) up to 400 ipm @ 28.5V and 382 amps (14.7 lbs/hr deposition rate) or 500 ipm @ 30V and 455 A (18.3 lbs/hr deposition rate) (using CO2, usually you drop 1-2 volts when using C25 instead of CO2).  Yeah, that will put some metal down.  Rated for seismic and structural welding (AWS 5.20 "D", D1.1, D1.8, and FEMA 353 'rated').  The 0.035 size is not rated/certified for seismic or demand-critical welds.Catalog blurb says "developed for higher deposition rates".http://products.esabna.com/EN/home/f...0_ultra_71t1t9Yeah, FCAW wires usually run 'hotter' than solid wires.  At least solid wires in short circuit transfer mode.  Spray arc solid wire runs 'hot'.    The best laid schemes ... Gang oft agley ...
Reply:Yeah, I think I am gonna pass.If anyone is interested it's on ebay. It started at $9.95 & $21.09 shipping. It is still at 0 bids, so I thought I could pick it up and get it for $10.00. That's why I said "have".http://www.ebay.com/itm/190573608989...84.m1423.l2649"Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!!
