Settle a disagreement for me...

My wife and I are at a disagreement...A few years ago she had her engagement ring "welded" to her wedding ring... now every couple years she has it redipped in Rhodium  because the white gold starts to wear off... when it starts to wear, you can clearly see where the rings were welded together....To me, It looks like they were brazed with silver solder... or similarbut she swears up and down the they use GOLD to weld them together...   I didn't think gold could be used to weld ...   even if it is 2 gold pieces...   thoughts?Miller 211Hypertherm PM 451961 Lincoln Idealarc 250HTP 221  True Wisdom only comes from Pain.
Reply:I could of sworn jewelry welders (like the orion) are pulse welded and no filler. Reply:yes you can weld gold.  depends on the jeweler too.  some braze and call it welding and others, well, weld and call it welding.

Reply:I am with the same lady, but I don't wear a ring.  for years it wasn't allowed in the trades I worked and now my fingers are so large the ring doesn't fit.  I guess I could resize it now I am not in the trades.

Reply:My wife just had her rings re-done.  The white gold wedding band had to be re-dipped/plated since it was wearing off but I would think that her rings were brazed/soldered together since her engagement ring is platinum.  It would be interesting to know what they used as a filler.
