Friend wanted a fire pit built for his patio. He supplied 36" pipe which had to be plasma cut to size. Welded in a couple pipe attachments to accept grill. Grill is 316 stainless angle and rod with handle and 2" sch. 10 to slip over the ring pipe.Al Attached ImagesA man is judged by what's between his legs...always ride a good horseMiller DialArc HFLincoln Classic 300DThermal Arc 181iPowermax 45Scotchman Ironworker(2) BridgeportsOkomota Surface GrinderAutoCAD 2010
Reply:Is that stainless tube gonna be strong enough to support a load on that grill with a few hundred degrees of heat on it?Hobart EZ-Tig newbie.
Reply:I think it should. 1/2" sch. 40 pipe tig'd all around. Guess time will tell...this is sort of a prototype.Al Attached ImagesA man is judged by what's between his legs...always ride a good horseMiller DialArc HFLincoln Classic 300DThermal Arc 181iPowermax 45Scotchman Ironworker(2) BridgeportsOkomota Surface GrinderAutoCAD 2010
Reply:Grate looks good. I'm not sure about the pipe that's holding it myself. Looks a bit flimsy even if it's strong enough. probably because the  pict makes it look like it's sloping away from the support and it looks twisted from the back. To me it looks like it would want to spin and dump everything in the fire. I'm guessing it's welded solid and the whole unit pivots on the vertical pipe to swing the grate off the fire..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Actually, a government bureau is the nearest thing to eternal life we'll ever see on this earth! Ronald Reagan
Reply:You guys got good eyes.It is tilted toward the center so I have it back in the shop for modifications. I'm going to tig in a couple pads on the 2" where it fits over the support pipe to level it out. See how that works out since wanted it to be self supporting on the support. He also wanted another grate so I will probably change some things with that one.Years ago I had training in CIP...Continuous Improvement Process. What I got out of it was if you do anything right the first time it screws up the whole process.
