New guy here with some older equipment, I have an older lincoln 225 amp arc welder that has not been used in probably 10 years, do I need to have it inspected or is there a proper way to verify everything is working ok aside from plugging it in and trying it out? Want to build/buy a table but I figured I better make sure its safe to use first.Im looking to get rid of some of the acetylene stuff I inherited but I have no idea of the value, could someone give a ballpark value for the stuff in the pictures below please:Thanks for any replies.
Reply:Those AC 225's are tanks. Other than maybe opening it up and making sure it's not full of mouse nests and maybe blowing it out gently, you should be good to go. Some guys like to clean the contacts lightly or maybe lube the selector switch, but I've run plenty of those old units that have never had that done to them. There are a couple "rebuild" or "restoration" threads that cover this pretty well here if you do a bit of searching and reading. As far as the O2 gear, cylinders could probably fetch $80-100 no problem together, possibly more, but it's tough to tell the size from that picture. That little OA torch in the center might have some value to someone who works on small stuff like an artist and the cutting torch would interest some as well, but I'd need better picts or more details to give any sort of value. Same would go with all the tips. I don't see a torch handle to go with them, so they have minimal value unless someone can identify them and has the handle to match. They look way too large for the small torch above them. Most of the rest of the stuff is nickel and dime stuff. Someone who still solders old school might have an interest in the two irons on the far right, but I doubt they are worth more than $5 to $10. The propane torches for the screw on baby cylinders aren't worth much if anything as you can buy them new cheap. Regs don't look in great shape, so I'd figure they need a rebuild at best and aren't worth much at all..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Actually, a government bureau is the nearest thing to eternal life we'll ever see on this earth! Ronald Reagan
Reply:Where I live in Central Texas, the oxy-acet with all the tips and regulators would bring over $300 easy.  The guys up north have it good for buying stuff cheap.Miller Syncrowave 350Millermatic 252/ 30A spoolgunMiller Bobcat 225g w/ 3545 spoolgunLincoln PowerArc4000Lincoln 175 Mig  Lincoln 135 Mig Everlast 250EX TigCentury ac/dc 230 amp stickVictor O/AHypertherm 1000 plasma
Reply:If your wanting to build a table I would keep the AC-225,tanks,regulators,strikers,tank wrenches, tip cleaners, and the hand torch. I would get rid of the excess torch tips simple because you have an older style hand torch which isnt able to use the heating and brazing tips its simply good for cutting. The regulators I would have checked out by a welding shop they look fairly rough but then again the same price to fix them you could buy a new torch set and forget the worry of old, unsafe gear.Lincoln pro core 125 14''chop saw7 inch grinder,2-4.5 inch grinders, electric die grinder.Half inch drillAnd alot of hand tools
