Hello guys/gals... I'm a novice welder at best.. Love the process and want to get better at welding. I currently am using a Lincoln SP-100 Mig Welder. I have some experience welding Stainless steel tubing with success. I am not just making a couple brackets for some car seats. The steel is brand new, no rust and 1/8" thick. I want to use some flux core wire (ran out of shielding gas for welding stainless) can I just re spool the wire and start welding ? Do I need to "Switch the polarity?"   Please help me .. Don't want to mess anything up. Thanks in advance for an assistance you pros can provide... Thanks...mjclemm...
Reply:Forgot to add  the diameter of the flux core wire is .30.  Ty....
Reply:Yes you have to switch polarity, and yes you can just put in new wire and go.  farmer2

Reply:Sp 100 will run 030 fc wire. The ground had to be on the positive side. Make sure your ground is clean. If it is dirty and not getting a good connection your weld will look like Turkey waste thrown against a wall. Now what kind of gasless fc wire do you not have to switch polarity? Reply:Hey beamwalker might want to put Lincoln's NS-3M in your memory bank. That wire is very fast. We used it a lot for welding pre-cast concrete deck panels together. Slap a piece of 4”x4” angle iron under the # 12 rebar, make four 6-inch long welds. Move to the next one.http://www.lincolnelectric.com/en-us...olnElectric%29Don’t pay any attention to meI’m just a hobbyist!CarlDynasty 300V350-Pro w/pulseSG Spool gun1937 IdealArc-300PowerArc 200ST3 SA-200sVantage 400
Reply:Hello guys and thanks for all the replies.... The Flux core wire I bought is from Harbor tool, it's the E71T-GS 0.030.  Should I use this, or buy a different kind of wire . Also, when it comes to Flux Core wire, is it all the same, or name brands are better ?    If this is a pain to use, should I just fill my tank with Argon and use regular .30 wire for mild steel?    I have 3 rolls of stainless wire as well, can I use the Stainless wire with regular steel? Is the gas about the same mix ?   Thanks again.... Mjclemm....
Reply:Harbor freights would be the last place I'd buy wire! Get some Lincoln NR-212, or Hobart 21-B. For general fab work, Mig with C-25 is the way to go.Don’t pay any attention to meI’m just a hobbyist!CarlDynasty 300V350-Pro w/pulseSG Spool gun1937 IdealArc-300PowerArc 200ST3 SA-200sVantage 400
Reply:I LOVE my Lincoln flux core. I use .035. I suspect you know this, but with flux core more then mig, drag the puddle. If there is slag, drag. Just my 2 cents.

Reply:Thanks... Haven't opened the wrapper yet and won't.. I'll just go down to the Home Depot and get a roll of the good stuff... I wasn't aware of wire being bad, thought it was just THIER welders... Thanks all again for th input... I'll snap a few shots of the weld when I'm done... Thanks..mjclemm...
