need a little refresher regarding shielding gas mixture. argon/co2 or argon/oxygen mix, and what ratio please. have gas mixer for argon/co2 and would be using er70s-6 wire, .045 dia. we are welding 3/8 and 1/2 inch thick material with mainly fillet welds. thanks in advance.
Reply:We use 98/2 argon/oxy but if you want to stick with C02, you would need a mix of 80/20 or better on the argon.
Reply:Many different ratios can be used, depending on what factors you are looking at. From a cost standpoint I would look between an 10-20% CO2 mix, balance Ar. For best spray characteristics I would look at a 2-5% O2 mix, balance Ar.If you want to be able to run short-circuit as well as a good axial spray, I would use a 90/10.Have we all gone mad?
Reply:98/2 works the best! in my opinion!
Reply:The most commonly used Argon/CO2 blends for spray transfer are 92/8 and 90/10. I have used both 92/8 and 95/5 with good results in spray and pulsed spray.JohnA few weldersA lot of hammersA whole lot of C-clamps
Reply:You haven't mentioned the machine you'll be using, because this could play a roll in which mix you can use. The fact that mention running an .045 wire has me suspecting you at least have a 250+ amp unit.ESAB Migmaster 250 Hobart Ironman 230Multimatic 215TWECO Fabricator 181i & 211iHH125EZ - nice little fluxcore only unitMaxstar 150 STH - very nice
