my dad is a contractor and is replacing a 2nd story floor and needs two holes put in the I beams every 16 inches im only getting $10 an hour and my gas paid for but its a start,i dropped my torch off yesterday and cant wait to get started
Reply:Good luck.If the beams are already installed, don't burn the house down.
Reply:Sounds like fun. I remember working in construction and building homes i was the only welder/cutter on the crew that knew what he was doing so those cutting and welding jobs were a blast. And he some helpful tips for you. Get some of those big fire blankets the bigger size ones so you can blow the sparks in to the blanket and not burn the studs or the PVC piping or the electric. And move all the plastic tool cases and nail boxes so they don't melt. And if your working with your crew or the other trades give them a good warning so they knew when you'll be cutting. Enjoy the job and good luck cutting .Millermatic 211 with mvp plugs miller titanium series welding helmetstihl chain saws 8 ft welding table

Reply:Is this new construction or tear out.  Are you burning the holes in to the flange or the web of the beams.  I know you are just doing what you are told but you just can't go cutting holes in I-beams and expect them to hold as designed.Great that you are working in a trade and get to work with your dad.  Follow the advice of the others and don't burn anything down.DanLast edited by DanD78; 06-20-2012 at 08:24 AM.
Reply:Thanks for all the support guys,i cut 2 holes on an 8 inch flange of the beam about 3/8" thick every 4 feet,we are tearing out an old floor in a a barn and rebuilding it the holes where just so we could lag a plate to the top of the beam for something to nail to,and i do have a fire blanket witch i used but it was a pain with only one like 6X8 and i had to move it all the time but the job is done and everything went smoothly and i made some money
Reply:HAHAHAHA, Good for you JPwelding, really is a good feeling making some money using your own skills, the pay may not be that big yet but its a start, good luck and enjoy what you like doing best.
