Reply:Usually the contaminants that come out while tigging the aluminum will be minimized by cleaning in advance.  The heat from the tig will undoubtedly bring some contaminants to the surface during the welding process.  If the weldor believes that the weld is jeopardized, he can grind out the bad spot and re-weld that spot.  Eventually the heat will stop bringing out contaminants.  I was trying to remember if the Northstar blocks were siliconized or not.  A high silicone content will be a real problem IIRC.Miller Syncrowave 350Millermatic 252/ 30A spoolgunMiller Bobcat 225g w/ 3545 spoolgunLincoln PowerArc4000Lincoln 175 Mig  Lincoln 135 Mig Everlast 250EX TigCentury ac/dc 230 amp stickVictor O/AHypertherm 1000 plasma
