Kayak Rack

Anybody ever fab a kayak rack for a utility trailer?  Thinking of making one out of some old chain link fence pipe meterails I have laying around and would like to see if anyone has any pics/ideas.

Reply:I did one, but it wasn't on a utility trailer.  I built a rack for my Yota, out of 1 3/8 fence tubing..........for lumber, ladders and such, then modified it to haul my two kayaks.  I just made the kayak mounts from 2x4s, and put a bit of foam on the lumber to protect the kayaks.  The kayak portion of the rack is removable with two bolts up near the cab, and two near the tail gate.-AaronJet 17.5" Drill Press1942 South Bend 16x84 Lathe1980s Miller 320A / BP --- 2013 Power Mig 2562012 Jet 7x12 Horizontal BandsawVictor O/A Setup

Reply:Finished building the kayak rack this morning.  Fits 2 yaks perfectly at shoulder height to avoid having to lift them too high over head.  Sure beats having to hoist them to the top of the Jeep!!!! Not pictured in this post are the gussets I added to the corners.  Mounted the uprights to the trailer frame using an angle and pipe combo type bracket that I drilled 5/16" holes through to allow for a quick release pinning of the rack to the frame.  Almost forgot how much I hate weldin' galvanized anything  Last steps are to paint and add some padding on the cross members to cushion the yaks against the pipe.  All in all I think I have ZERO money (except consumables) in the rack as it is made of some old fence pipe and a stick of angle that were all given to me.  Although it's cold out; welding in the cold beats my desk job any day!!! Reply:Thanks....I wanted to be able to stick two more yaks and camping gear below.  Worked out better than I imagined it would.
