Reply:Not sure what I'm gunna do for ashes in the bottom but probably a simple box made from angle iron or somethingTo bend the flat bar (1/8 inch) I used a 10 in pot which after it springs back gives a bout a 12 inch diameter bend . The best part about my bender is you can make eggs while youre bending to save time! The rest was just bent in a vise. Attached Images
Reply:Either you are not married or you snuck that pot out of the kitchen when your wife was not home! I bought some expanded metal to make a couple of belt guards and it was so sharp I sliced two of my fingertips messing with it.When I looked at all the expanded material in my local supply store, all of it was like razor wire. For some reason the expanded metal you used in the log holder does not look as threatening..... Did you dull it down somehow?

Reply:I'm still waiting for the grout to dry before testing but I left about a 1/8 in gap between the tile and the fire pit, the grout got a bit messy tho and got in my gap abit. I'm going to test it soon and hopefylly nothing cracks or ill have to redo the tile or something. I'm hoping on it not expanding much though. . Fingers crossedIll take a picture of the inside later its pretty much a box at the top and hexagon ? (6 sides) at the bottom the log holders sitting in itAnd mikee, the pot was already  burnt so badly from when she cooked it was trash hahaNot sure about ththe expanded metal I was lucky enough to get a free 4 x 8 sheet so I've no idea where to buy that same kind

Reply:Well sorry for dredging up the old thread but I finally got a hold of some fire screen material and finished the table, thought I post a pic of the screen on top. Left a hole in the middle so I can use an umbrella instead of the fire pit in the hotter months (and its hot here all the time in AZ )Had some left over tiles of the same color so I used them to make a smaller matching table too Since then Ive used it a few times and the expanding of the metal form the heat seems to be fine on the tile / grout Attached ImagesLast edited by bobjenkins; 06-29-2012 at 11:12 PM.
Reply:Great looking project. Too bad it wasnt lighter so you could haul it up for camping. I could see good times, well into the night, around that table.Common sense in an uncommon degree is what the world calls wisdom.
