I've got an old Oxy-Acetylene Handbook here and I've been reading through it trying to familiarize myself with some techniques before burning up some steel. They reference Oxweld and Purox blowpipes and tips only. I might be wrong, but some of the tip number sizes they mention for welding thin steel seem significantly larger than a Victor tip number. Are Oxweld, Purox and Victor tip size numbers the same or different? If different, is there a conversion table readily available to convert to the Victor sizes?
Reply:I have a Purox oxy-acetylene cutting/welding setup and I can vouch that yeah, the tip sizes are waaay different than the tip sizes of other, more common brands. I don't know where a conversion chart from Purox tip sizes to other could be had, at least off-hand. Howevrer I do have a chart I use showing what size purox tip to use (and also what gas pressures to set) for various thicknesses of metal being welded or cut.Edit: 5 minutes on google and I found a cutting torch tips size chart for various brands of cutting tips, here:http://www.airgas.com/content/detail...=7000000000128Edit 2: and here is a welding tips chart for various brands:http://bikesmithdesign.com/Welding/tips.htmlLast edited by jakeru; 05-15-2011 at 07:37 PM.
