Time to time I get bored so,this is one of the pieces i make for future projects. It's 3/8" solid round pulled into a knot, lots of heat,a vise and a good pair of Vise-Grips.We fab sign brackets and forged wrought iron for various shops/stores around here and have used a few of these as small table legs.Brian Attached Images
Reply:that would be a cool leg on a table!!!Lincoln SA 200 Lincoln Idealarc 300/300 TIG
Reply:Got any pics of doing this one step at a time? I've been looking at it and trying to wrap my head around the steps to doing it. I know it can't be the same as tieing rope, the ends are too straight. How close together can you tie them on the same rod,or is 1 the limit to a rod? Have you done any other type of knot besides just a square knot? Like a bowline, or a figure 8 knot.
Reply:I am amazed at how well it kept its shape. Do you do anything special to keep from elongating ie while shaping?
Reply:Now lets see you do a turks head the same way. I am impressed. I'd have tried this when I took my forging class if it had been posted earlier..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Reply:Wouldn't it be easier to just cut it off to length to shorten? That's pretty neat.  Would love to see the process in video format.MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!

Reply:Since requests haven't been discouraged, lets see a simple one using two pieces, perhaps a Hunter's Bend or one of the similar variants.

Reply:Nice work very impressive I like how it kept its shape really well, you can tell it hasn't been overheated. http://www.philswelding.comA monkey fist is hard with rope, that would be tough out of steel. Reply:Monkey's fist/paws were used ont the tall ships and put in cannots to shoot a line to shore. I don't see it being a knot someone could do in metal, not without cheating. There are no problems. Reply:From looking at your knot i cant even see any hammer marks. It looks like you just grabed it and threw a half not in it.   Whew.  I'm also interested in a video of that.  Mac

Reply:I took a few pictures today, difficult to do ,and heat at the same time. I  lost a little control of the heat at the end,but didn't come out too bad.Brian Attached Images
Reply:............And a few more pictues,I used a cutting torch for heat, nothing more is needed,I like the control you have with that instead of using the forge or rosebud. The only tools needed are vise, visegrips, hammer (to straighten out the mistakes),wire brush, and torch.Total time is approx. 18 minutes,(I'm a lot slower then that dude in the video, man he's good!!)Brian Attached Images
