So I have absolutely zero experience building anything other than computers. I purchased a Hobart 210MVP and decided that my first project would be a fire pit. It's 30"x30" base with 1/8th steel and the frame is from an old bed. My own design and took me about a week (part time) to finish. It's not done yet but at least I can have a fire in the mean time.
Reply:Congrats on your first project.Looks like you could have roasted marsh-mellows from the porch.keep it up.
Reply:Thanks!I wanted to get her real hot so I can burn all that oil away before marshmallows or pudgy pies
Reply:looks good bud, easy on the lighter fluid tho! I hate being bi-polar it's awsomeMy Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys
Reply:THATS your first project? You're off to a great start Looks like fun, firepits are great to build, and you've got yourself a good welder there. What kind of finish do you have in mind?[Account Abandoned 8/8/16 Please Do Not Attempt Contact Or Expect A Reply]. See you on YouTube! -ChuckE2009
Reply:I have a place nearby that does powder coating for real cheap. After it gets "seasoned" I'll prep it and take it there. It's 3 pieces (bottom, screen, & top) so its fairly easy to move about.I really over did the welding but I wanted a project where the cosmetics really shouldn't matter too much. Believe it or not, all cuts were made with a 4 1/2 angle grinder...only. No ban saw, no shear, no chop saw, ect. This is why it's extra special to me, it may be trivial to some people, but you just have to make do with the tools at hand.
Reply:mfldmike - How much do your neighbors like it? Opus
Reply:They like it quite a bit, couple of them wanted me to build one for them for $200 w/out materials. I told them them they are more than welcome to come on over if they see it fired up, but I wasn't going to do it for profit. I'll probably build a "2.0" and give this one away.
Reply:I bought the welder to keep me busy at home and off the couch.I have nice 3/8th" plate that I plan on making a welding table next. We'll see what I can't salvage first. |
