I needed a new clam rake so I decided to throw this together from some stuff I had hanging around. All 3/8" 316 Stainless round bar TIG'd together. This one is for steamers, the next one I am making is a Quahog scratcher. Attached ImagesDisclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."

Reply:You will get tossed in jail if you use a shovel or "edged tool" to dig clams here, tined tools only. We have nice razor clams here too.Disclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."
Reply:Nice rake, here on Long Island, as a recreational clammer, we jump overboard and use our feet. Stomp up and down in the mud until you feel the shell, reach down and grab it. Of course this only works in the water. Would look pretty funny doing it on an exposed sandbar..

Reply:Cool rake! This actually sounds like fun. How often can you do it? Is it a consistant score or do you have bad days like fishing? I LOVE clams!"Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!! Reply:Growing up in cape cod we would go to north Chatham for the big softball size hard shell clams. Four feet of water at low tide we would use our feet to locate them but the horseshoe crabs love clams so you had to be careful of them. Grampa had som long tined rakes with a basket to capture the clam. We used them for crab cakes, chowda and fishing bait ( flounda) damn I miss those days. Reply:I go for steamers all the time.  Not quite sure how your tool will work.  Are you just gonna slam he tines into the sand and force the handle upward?A standard pitchfork work for me. Reply:This one is for Quahogs, skinny tines on a long handle you rake quahogs in the water. I don't like basket rakes, that's why I made a " Chatham scratcher". This is a prototype mode, there will be refinements on future rakes Still debating if I want to permantly attach it to the handle. Reply:Drf255, that is what we have been using on the cape to dig softshell clams with for the last hundred years, it is almost a direct copy of the rusty old one my Grandfather gave me.http://www.goclamming.com/index.php?...&product_id=55Disclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."

Reply:looks like fun, no clams in west texas but plenty of stinkin mussels - add a nice rock or hammer and instant trot line voodoo bait. When any government, or any church for that matter, undertakes to say to its subjects, "This you may not read, this you must not see, this you are forbidden to know," the end result is tyranny and oppression, no matter how holy the motives.
