***I am new to torches and have zero experience. I usually dive in and figure it out through venues like this...so I'm starting that process here for torches!I got a used oxy/propane set up I'll use a couple times a year for heating/cutting for automotive purposes. I already have welding options so this will be for cutting/heating only.It came with a MECO Aviator Jet torch which I can't get tips for. It currently has an acetylene tip but I need propane. I see all the stuff (tinman etc) about welding tips and adapters but nothing regarding cutting. 1. can i get an adapter to use propane cutting tips?2. should i just move on to another torch?
Reply:You should be able to get a good price for it if you decide to sell. The Aviator is highly prized for small welding and brazing use. I have seen the handles in good condition go for upwards of $80 on ebay - almost into new Smith AW1A territory. If you plan to continue with the same torch for awhile, I'd sell the Aviator to a collector and pick up something along the lines of a Smith MC509/WH100 setup, or a Victor CA1350/100FC, or a.....you get the point. If you're careful about your transactions, you might even end up with money left over.
Reply:great, thanks tbone. sounds like a plan, i'll try to sell it and get something else. |
