well i plan on doing alot more aluminum in the future(building some boats for myself) im pondering selling my 30a and picking up a push pull setup and be able to use bigger rolls and not have the bulk and weight of a spool gun. anyway my shop is  only 20x20  so im thinking a 15 ft would work with out a bunch of extra laying around but i don't wanna be kicking myself latter for not paying a lil bit more for the 25ft version any and all opinions welcome350P 30A spool gun cut master 51  syncro 250 other stuff " take a dog off the street and make him prosper and he will not bite you sad the same cannot be said for man" i didnt use punctuation just to piss you off
Reply:You're not going to be building much of a boat in a 20x20 shop.Might want to look into expanding the shop before buying more equipment.Syncro 250 DX Dynasty 200 DXMM 251 w/30A SG XMT 304 w/714 Feeder & Optima PulserHH187Dialarc 250 AC/DCHypertherm PM 1250Smith, Harris, Victor O/ASmith and Thermco Gas MixersAccess to a full fab shop with CNC Plasma, Water Jet, etc.
Reply:i live in the desert and run shallow water and veggies  with mud motors mostly duck hunting.  i don't plan on building a yacht  my first couple will be 12-14 foot flat bottom backwater rigs maybe a pirogue or 2. the boat i run now is 16 ft and if i build a bigger boat it would be an 18 footer. that aside it has nothing to do with my actual question350P 30A spool gun cut master 51  syncro 250 other stuff " take a dog off the street and make him prosper and he will not bite you sad the same cannot be said for man" i didnt use punctuation just to piss you off
Reply:a push/pull is nice and although i don't notice much of a difference in size or comfort in handling it is the way to go if you are mostly running aluminum for cost effectiveness. for the difference in the amount of AL i do it would be a pain in the butt to be changing guns and spools. so for me the 30a is the way. myself i wouldn't sell the spool gun though. you just never know whats around the next bend.i would spend the extra for the 25' over the 15' because again you don't know about that corner. many times you will want to just get at the other side of the boat and say to yourself "i should have spent the bucks". instead you will have to stop and move the machine.Last edited by jbmprods; 01-12-2012 at 01:54 AM.225NT bobcatAEAD200LEScott 125mm175, mm252 w 30A, PT225mm211, TA 181iHyper Therm 380, cut master 529100X & XX, Digital Elite6 Victor setssmith little torch, meco midget kalamazoo band sawsteel max saw evoulution circular saw
Reply:I use the 30A and can't imagine trying to get by with a 15A.Syncro 250 DX Dynasty 200 DXMM 251 w/30A SG XMT 304 w/714 Feeder & Optima PulserHH187Dialarc 250 AC/DCHypertherm PM 1250Smith, Harris, Victor O/ASmith and Thermco Gas MixersAccess to a full fab shop with CNC Plasma, Water Jet, etc.

Reply:Spend the extra $$$ on the 25' gun- the 15-footer will have poor resale value when you sell it to get the 25 footer. A few weldersA lot of hammersA whole lot of C-clamps
