Good morning So as some of you know I have a HF 80A DC Stick welder, that I just bought a TIG Torch for.I also just picked up a Lincoln Wire Welder with MIG Kit. The manual on the Lincoln says it will only says it will do some thicker metals using the flux cored wire rather than with Mig. So can I use the regulator pictured here with the HF and tig torch using argon? It's the Lincoln regulator, no adjustment that I can see, so then would I need a flow meter? Or just the way it is? Reply:Looks to me like you will need a flowmeter.  You need to be able to adjust the pressure of the argon, or whatever gas your using.
Reply:Okay thanks, the kit (for mig) was unopened when I bought it and the welder but it's 21 years old. I assume it's adjusted (preset for the Lincoln it came with. But this should do Argon as well as co2? Thanks again for tolerating a guy that knows nothing. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Reply:Unit will do 100% argon. The only problem being it will not allow you to adjust your flow rate. If the flow rate is acceptable with tig and gives you decent shielding, it will work just fine. If the flow rate is too low, since I don't believe you can adjust that unit, then you'd need to get a different flow meter.Try it. At worst you'll mess up the end of the tungsten and have to regrind and it won't work. If flow is so so, you'll end up with porisity and weld issues, though if you are using a gas lens, the improved flow may compenaste for the lack of flow rate. Other wise you might just go thru more gas than you would other wise.Oh and as far as the mig is concerned, despite what the lit might say, 1/8" will be the practical max under real world conditions even with FC wire, unless you are doing something like art work where strength of the connection doesn't matter,.No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Actually, a government bureau is the nearest thing to eternal life we'll ever see on this earth! Ronald Reagan
