Here are some photos of a little portable stove that will be used in a dome tent. It was a freeby for a good customer...he provided some photos as a rough guide. The top is from 10 Ga HRS, the front and back are 12 GA and the body is 14 GA. All the rest was made from bits and pieces. It isn't complete in the photo...the customer will locate 4 -1/2 inch pipe half couplings onto the bottom into which will thread the 4 pipes for legs. Also the weld on hinges need welding on. It is for a 5 inch chimney and took about 7 hours to make. I hope he likes it
Reply:flatflatvertical down, 14 ga body to 10 ga top. before anyone scolds me...the heat marks on the top clearly show that penetration wasn't an issueWelded with o.o35 solid wire with c25 shielding gas at about 22 VoltsLast edited by Tinbasher; 03-01-2008 at 03:45 PM.

Reply:Very nice! He must be a REALLY good customer for you to do that for free. He's probably one of those rare customers that we all wish we had more of. The kind of person that understands that good skilled work is important and money, regardless of how much, is well spent on quality. Probably doesn't haggle much on prices you give him for work that you do.

Reply:It was for a maintenance Millwright supervisor at the local concrete plant. They were the largest customer of the company I was working for at the time, representing several million dollars in sales every year. 7hr@$80 an hour plus $150 dollars worth of Material equals $710, a small price to pay for a friendly maintenance crew when you are continuously in their plant as a contractor. It was money well spent.I couldn't say how or where he used it. The only feedback I got was that I didn't make the area of the adjustable draft large enough as it only worked good with the door left slightly ajarLast edited by Tinbasher; 10-13-2011 at 10:30 PM.
Reply:Is there any plans(blueprints) to make this stove?

Reply:Very nice stove. Reminds me of one a friend of mine built several years ago. He made a trip into the Gila Wilderness every year with pack horses. He owns a machine and fab shop so it's easy for him to build what he wants. He's also the only person I ever heard of with a pack saddle made from 6061T aluminum. He had a runaway wreck one year that destroyed his pack saddle. He said it might happen again and it might hurt the horse but the saddle would still be good.
Reply:I like the stove, but I'm really concerned about the tent.  Burning a stove inside a tent is a great way to get carbon monoxide poisoning.  I don't see a good explanation of how the stove is vented to the outside; I've never seen a dome tent with an exhaust port, let alone one made of materials that will stand up to the heat of a metal chimney.  Can you explain a little more about the tent?
Reply:I have awood stove for my tent as well. The big tents have a jack in the roof for the stove pipe to go out. The tents generally have an air opening at the peak on either side. I also open the windows a little for fresh air.

Reply:Ah, much better.  Not a dome tent, but it all makes sense now.Forgive this Okie for not being familiar with such things; down here, we fit air conditioning to our tents instead of heating.
Reply:not to rain on the parade but the stove needs a plenum. if it gets cold you will have everyone in camp stuffing the stove full of wood and when it fills up. it wont be able to draft with the exaust at the same elevation as the fuel. a simple 6"x6"x6" box to elevate the stack will make this thing chug like a choo. choo... . otherwise it looks great you just gave me the way to finish the door on mine
