All,Here are a couple photos of a cart I'm building for all of my brewery kit.1x1.5x0.065 steel tube from OnlineMetals, which happens to be local.Using a HF 90A Flux-Core Welder #98871.Haven't done any welding since high-school shop some 15+ years. Thanks! Reply:Looks good Kevin. Is this setup for storing the kettles or for doing your boils?  How did you make those cuts?
Reply:I recently did some exhaust fab for a buddy of mine using a HF wire feed. It took me a few mins of welding with the crap to make a weld that actually looked decent. (For what it is...) If I were you, I would get some scrap and get back into the groove before doing something on a finish project, especially if you havent been at it in 15+ like you said. That is, only if you care about how it looks. If not, keep on truckin! And when you have found a way to mail homebrew to your friends, let me know. Cause everyone I talk to tells me no.  Im also curious if this is just a storage platform for your kettles / fermenters, or if this is a boiling stand or something? More details please!
Reply:do some quick searching in the harbor freight section here and decide if you want to do some updates to your welder.  There are some good pics of beginners beads pre / post modifications and mostt of the splatter is fixed.  The reason for so much spatter is some of the HF machines are AC output instead of DC, and then the next better tier is pulsating DC instead of smooth filtered DC.  Adding a capacitor and a bridge rectifier vastly improves them.miller syncrowave 250hobart handler 140home made 400 amp engine driven in progress...
Reply:The placement of the tanks / kettle on the cart is such that they are in the correct position during the brewing process. I'm trying to make it as self-contained as possible -- so it's function is for both system-effeciency and storage. The cuts were made using a HF Horizontal Band-Saw # 93762. Reply:All,Had a couple of hours to work on this project.Got the frame all tacked-up. Ugly welds mean lots of grinding.Biggest challenge I've had has been with burning through the thin-walled tube.Coming together nicely nevertheless! Thanks,Kevin Attached Images
Reply:I like it!  I just bought the premium MR. Beer kit to get started, since this will be my first time.  Got the kit on Woot.com for 19 bucks, figured it wouldn't be a bad way to start.  Just have to be careful sugaring during the bottling process so I have heard.JoeMiller 140 Autoset (2010)Miller Syncrowave 250 (1996)
Reply:so will this sit on the stove for the brewing?oh no another project for my to do list.......my son has taken over the basement with about a zillion bottles....i came home the other night and my wife was explaining to my daughters friend that the reason the basement smelled like beer was due to a home brewing effort in filling and capping the bottles....and then the son says...hey dad my next brew has to be refrigerated for a couple of weeks can i take all the shelves out of the basement refrigerator and put the 5 gallon bucket in there to ferment....Last edited by 37ford4dr; 01-06-2012 at 10:51 AM.bobs77vet/37ford4drEastwood digital TIG200HH190Lincoln Invertec 155sLincoln weldpak 100sears/craftsman (lincoln) 50a 240v buzz boxO/A rig Harris gaugesnexion cut 50 dxchicago electric (HF) 240v spot welder

Reply:Keven, I like your layout of the stand!  Got a question on your welding table top.  How does that board hold up to your fabrication work?  Been thinking about that for a small table myself.  Bob

Reply:Oh great! I've been thinking about getting back into brewing. Now I'm going to end up going off the deep end again. My last brew sculpture sold for just under two grand and it was discounted at that price. The Mrs is gonna KILL me!Unless, I make her a couple batches of wine first, that's it, that's the ticket....Seriously though, go do a search on brew sculptures and see just how elaborate they can get. Mine was three tier and used three 16 gallon stainless beer kegs. All stainless fittings with a March magnetic pump (just like the one in the picture above. Had both a coil and a plate chiller, a grain mill and 10 5 gallon corny kegs (old soda fountain kegs). Garage was full of bags of grain. Second fridge used for lagering and keeping hops in the freezer. Even had a couple of strains of ale yeast I was growing. Great hobby, made 11 gallons at a pop and never ran out of great tasting grog!I can see it now, I am in BIG trouble.........Bird of Prey(Bird of Prayer)OhioDaveSc(HOT)sdale Arizona
Reply:Nice job.  IDK how long you've been brewing, but 5 gallon batches get old fast.  Too bad you're not setup for 11's.  That's a nice setup.  I'm gonna likely gonna build something like a verticle Brutus 10 soon, but I still make pretty good beer with my ghetto cooler and 25 gallon mega pot setup.TA Arcmaster 300CM3XMT 304S22P12 suitcase feederX-Treme 12VSOptima pulserTA161SMaxstar 150STLHypertherm PM45OP setupStihl 020AVP, 039, 066 Magnum
Reply:I bought a 25 gal pot from Sams.com for $100 and use a converted keg for a hot water tun and I do 15 gal batches. Ferment in a 20 gal Sanitizer jugs and siphon streight into a Bud Light keg. Reply:Went over the whole thing with 80 grit flap wheel. Flap wheel did a much nicer job cleaning up the ugly flux core welds and removing surface rust than the rigid grinding disc.Sprayed the whole thing with matte black bbq paint.Doesn't look too bad. Attached Images
Reply:All,Brewery update.Started mounting all the kit onto the cart.Pinewood decks on each level, pretending they are mahogany.Added casters, mounted the control pannel.Installed heating element and temp-probe in the kettle.Still to-do: mount the pump and counter-flow chiller, some misc plumbing. Thanks! Reply:Thats a nice setup there well done, Now you've had a practice run, just multiply the sizes by 100 order 500 bottles and lets get this Brewery off the ground
