So I finally got around to putting the lugs and stinger on my new cables. Ran into a slight problem when it came to figuring out how to exactly crimp the lugs onto the cable. Did some looking around the shop to see if I could find something to crimp them on with when I came across my mig pliers. Put he lug into the pliers where you're suppose to loosen your tip with put the cable into the end of the lug and gave the pliers a good smack with a BFH, hit it a couple more times just for good measure. Holds good and strong and looks nice.93 Bobcat 225GMillerMatic 135HF Tig 91811
Reply:Glad it worked for you, But thats a good way to bust a pair of pliers. A vice works good also....orMiller 211Hypertherm PM 451961 Lincoln Idealarc 250HTP 221 True Wisdom only comes from Pain.

Reply:In a pinch I have rounded off the end of a chisel and hammer parallel with the lug.........then take to a vice and pinch it tight from the sides.

Reply:I pulled a set of slightly broken pair of crimpers the size of large bolt cutters out of a dumpster about 8 years ago it Does everything from 8ga to 0ga with all the crimp dies on a rotating head. I fixed them, not good as new but they work.I have no idea how much they cost new but I bet they are worth it.You can get smaller ones that do 2 or 3 sizes.old Miller spectrum 625 Lincoln SP-135 T, CO2+0.025 wireMiller model 250 and WP-18V torchCraftsman 100amp AC/DC and WP-17V torchCentury 115-004 HF arc stabilizerHome made 4 transformer spot welderHome made alternator welder
Reply:I think you might be surprised how much they cost. I have this one with a full set of dies I got at auction years ago. I paid about 1/100 the going rate for them.http://www.specialized.net/Specializ...-MCM-2219.aspxLast edited by irish fixit; 03-09-2014 at 12:28 AM.Millermatic 252XMT 304'sDynasty 280DXHypertherm PowerMax 1250Miller Trailblazer 302 EFIOptima PulserXR feeder and XR Edge gun and more athttp://members.dslextreme.com/users/waynecook/index.htm
Reply:I have used actual bolt cutters to crimp lugs onto battery cables in the past when crimping tools could not be found in the shop. But obviously you gotta be really careful how much push you give them.

Reply:I had to replace the lug on my short whip for my stinger. Didn't have a lug on hand so used a piece of copper tube; slid it on and used the HF press to flatten it , works ok. The lug goes into the MONSTER 300 amp stingers the shop sends out. Those get heavy !
