Grease in my new oxy acetylene regulators?

Hi folks,Picked up a new set of OA regulators and noticed there is grease in the regulator adjustment holes where the T handles screw in on the front.    Does that make sense?  Should I degreaser the hole?  The entire regulator body?  Ignore it?   The grease is in both regulators.  I noticed it when I unscrewed the t handle off one but it was after hours so couldn't call Smith. Thanks.
Reply:Take it to a professional who can take it apart completely. Grease in an Oxygen regulator will explode
Reply:Rodj  -  If these are brand units, and you bought them from real weldingsupplier, just call them and ask.  If the counterman cannot assure that the grease is OEM, non-petroleum, ask to talk to tech/services.  If you don't get a good answer  -   don't try to fix this by yourself;  take the units back, and only deal with suppliers that have answers that they will stand behind.  Opus
Reply:There are O2 compatible greases out there for reg applications. If the regs are new in the box, and from a reputable manufacturer, I'd bet that's what was used.As said if the regs are brand new, I'd simply double check with the welding supply you bought the regs from or ask for the manufacturers tech line and check with them..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:We use LOX compatible grease in aerospace. I'm betting that you have oxygen compatible grease in your regulators.Two turn tables and a microphone.
Reply:Thanks guys.  These are Smith series 30 regs.  That all makes sense.  Imagine my horor at finding grease after all the warnings in class, the instruction manual, the books, Internet, even the labels on the reg bodies...  Then my first Very own brand spankin new set of regulators and...
