I though Lincoln Excalibur 7018 could be ran on AC. I guess I thought wrong. It runs for about an inch or two then cuts out, I tried 110 amps up to 170. But no go.Hobart Stickmate LX 235 ACEverlast Powerarc 140ST DC InverterPowcon 300ST
Reply:Hello Jeffvador, even though E7018 electrode is listed as an AC/DC electrode I know of very few people who have good luck running it on AC. When you look at the spec. you'll notice that DC is listed as the primary recommended current and AC is secondary. Of the folks I know that run it on AC many of them are using high-frequency stabilizers to assist with the "arc outage" that you are experiencing. You might try the E7018 AC rods that are manufactured by a few of the rod providers, they have some additives in the flux to assist with the arc problem. Good luck and best regards, Allanaevald

Reply:I played with Lincoln's Excalibur 7018 with a 1970s buzz box. Only thing I noticed is, it doesn't wet out like on DC. Rod right out of the over did wet out better than rod that had never seen the inside of a rod oven. The arc never went out on me once. Reply:I had one of those CEP, it was AC only though - underrated nice cheap welder in my opinion. It's still serving duty on a farm right now. Reply:I bought that machine in 1977 I think. Seems like I paid a couple hundred dollars for it. Still have it, it's back in a corner of the shop. Use to do a lot of Tig welding with it.Don’t pay any attention to meI’m just a hobbyist!CarlDynasty 300V350-Pro w/pulseSG Spool gun1937 IdealArc-300PowerArc 200ST3 SA-200sVantage 400
