I made some brackets for my welding gear to secure it to the top of my new welding cart. It keeps the gear from sliding off (hard plastic doesn't grip stainless very well) and hopefully from walking away when I'm not looking. I bent all of these using just a small vise but that was kind of a PITA. Ideally I would like to own a decent sized metal brake/shear but I am quite limited on shop space. Any recommendations for a small device that I can bend steel (up to maybe 6" wide and maybe 14-16GA) and up to 3/16" aluminum with? Ideally something that can do both square and small radius bends. Or do you just use a vise? Thanks.
Reply:Do you have a hydraulic press ? Like the 20 ton harbor freight one ? I posted a brake attachment I made for mine. Cheap, and works well. http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php...ke-need-adviceI have this HF compact bender that works too. http://www.harborfreight.com/compact-bender-38470.htmlHere's a post by a member. http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php...croll%20benderDo you have a harbor freight in your area ? Reply:Hello LuMax, here's a little something for your consideration. Sorry for the clarity issues of the photo. This utilizes an arbor press and a machined punch/die set. You could use angle iron and some other readily available structural shapes to make your punches/dies tool. Best regards, Allan Attached Imagesaevald
Reply:Got this out of grab barrel for $5.00. Suppose to fit between vice jaws, see the magnets?Tried it with vice, did not like how it worked. Beefed it up with steel, now it will do sharp bends, 1/8 and smaller thickness.Charl
