I've got 2 sa 250's, one with bad generator, on with a bad motor and I'd like to switch the good motor into the good generator. Can't see how to remove the motor from the generator. Can anyone help me out? TIA

Reply:Yeah before you start tearing apart anything get you a copy of the manufacturing manual to aide and guide you. Once your in your in, there's no going back. Bills weld repair has most manuals~1987 Lincoln Sa-200~~1978 Miller Big 40~ (restored) ~and everything inbetween~
Reply:And don't be a damned fool either. Use a camera and take a lots of pictures while you are taking things apart, BEFORE you take stuff loose. That way you sort of have a map of where everything went, and how it went. You'll be thankful if you do, and hate yourself if you don't.
Reply:If you cut a few 1/8" gaurds on the generator housing you can reach in and unbolt the cooling fins on the flywheel and then untwist the flywheel from the generator stands and take it off very easy. I doubt I have pics from the last time I did one.
Reply:That's how I ruined a good machine, nicked a shunt coil. Had to disassemble the RIGHT way to fix it. Reply:Yes I have done one that way, I was probably 18 years old when i rebuilt the perkins on it and its still going and generating power just fine.
Reply:I don't doubt it does work just fine. Cutting it up is just not the right way to do it IMO is all. Kinda like taking a holesaw to your car's fender so you can take the sparkplugs out so you don't have to open the hood.MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!
Reply:Just about everybody that owns an old 200 knows you CAN cut the guards on the stator but it is a half assed way of doing it but much quicker. Do yourself a favor and take it apart the right way. Rebuild the wore out generator. Work on the other one later. You will understand these much better if you do it the right way.
