I’ve been looking for a Security door to fit my 8ft wide French doors because they are so vulnerable without success. I may have to either get rid of the French doors or build a cage around my outside patio to keep the scumbags out which I realy don't want to do. I thought about buying 3 single doors and cutting one in half for the two small side panels and weld it to the steel posts that the doors hinge on. Of course I would have to make a frame to support the doors with a long beam across the top to keep everything in line. The problem I’m having is that the door I want is 32” min and I need 29” for each door but I think I could fudge it a little for a standard 30”door. Then I found this double door which is 66.5-in wide frame to frame and I don’t think I could cut it down to size due to its design and it would look real tacky hanging over the side panels 3” on each side. The French door side panels are 16 ½” wide and all four doors open in so they would still function, but I think it would look awful. My other alternative besides replacing the French door is buying some 6’ high fence panels and make my own security door without the steel mesh. The mesh is only going to prevent them from breaking the glass, but I don’t know why they would waste their time when they really want to get inside. So anyway does anybody have any advice that they would like to share?Last edited by sleeper; 03-21-2014 at 09:55 AM.Reason: spelling |
