Reply:Well I'm not experienced by any stretch of the imagination! Your root looks really good. But I'd say you need to increase your amps to get more of a flowing puddle for the cap. Here is a 5-G pipe I did with 6013. Reply:I don't the cap at around 105 amps dc-! The top of the pipe where it's flat I find pretty easy to get a nice flat washed out cap on the stringer beads! I find coming up on the 45 angle the first stringer bead cap wants to crown ! I find it hard to keep it flat on that part!Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Reply:That's what I mean, turn it up! Just like vertical up hill, you want to be right on the ragged edge of the puddle boiling out on you. That's how you get a flowing puddle. Here is 6-G with 7018. Reply:Looks like you are stepping in the root uphill as well as the fill and cap. Looks pretty good though- It IS possible to drag the root in up or down.  Perhaps try that and lets give a look see.How about do an Arkansas Bellhole (6G) all the way downhill. Watch yer puddle drip on the Arkansas/ Oklahoma border though!Watch the arc strikes, young man! LOL

Reply:One thing you might try, but be real careful you run the risk of porosity in the weld. Try running a laid over J motion. The long part of the J on the bottom, the hook part of the J will be your fill. Only 6-inch pipe picture I have is with 6010, in the 5-G position. But here is a 3-pass cap with 7018 on 4-inch pipe in the 6-G position. Now no laughing! I'm not a pipe welder by trade. Reply:you just need practice. Your root looks pretty good, the cap is rough, not bad though, keep working, it will get better. The more you do it you become more comfortable, and the appearance will improve. Id say bump the heat up a bit too, like already suggested.- Christian M.C3 Welding & Fabrication - CNC Plasma Cutting-Mobile Welding-Custom welding and fabwww.c3welding.com
Reply:I guess they use slightly different rods in Ireland than I am used too, I mainly do 6010 root with 7018 out.But your root look great from what I can see, the reinforcent is perfect. On the cap for that large of a bevel, you have to do stringers, no weaves. One tip I do on my caps is after I have deposited my bottom 1st cap stringer is I take a "zip" wheel and put a very slight line at the very top edge of the stringer. That way you can see it better and it gives you a better path to follow.Local 83
Reply:your bead looks good but you need more practice on your cap, it looks a little bit rough.  you are on the right track you just need to keep burning more rods.
Reply:Your root looks decent. The cap looks sloppy. You need make a visually appealing cap when welding pipe. That's very important. You should get good at filling and capping with 7018. If you ever decide to weld pipe for a living, 7018 is what you'll be using. Not 6013. Roots are usually put in with 6010.JasonLincoln Idealarc 250 stick/tigThermal Dynamics Cutmaster 52Miller Bobcat 250Torchmate CNC tableThermal Arc Hefty 2Ironworkers Local 720
Reply:6013 is widely used through out Europe for high pressure pipe welding. Search for member here Pipe Fitter, or on other sites he goes by Flange Jockey, the man is an artiest with 6013. Reply:Some more practise pics of 6011/6013 in 6g position!Really practising to get the stringer beads on the cap flat and consistent all the way around the pipe!Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Reply:Looking good. These welds would have no problem passing visual inspection per B31.3
Reply:It looks like your consistency has gotten a lot better.  I don't know what 6013 should look like really, I've never ran it.  6011 is a lot like 6010, although I prefer the 6010.  Only rod I've ever welded pipe with is the xx10 rods, all downhill.  I have welded some road bore casing uphill with 7018 or welded control fittings on uphill with 7018.  I need to practice the stringer cap thing, I've never done that.  Always "puddle cap", or a weave-------------------------Chemetron AC/DC 300 HFSnap-On MM300L Lincoln SP140 Lincoln AC/DC 225g Lincoln SA200 Lincoln SA200 Miller Bobcat 225GVictor torchesH&M and Mathey beveling machinesMcElroy Plastic pipe fusion

Reply:6" 160 bead pic (6010) fill pic and cap pic (7018) last pic is sidebend test.
Reply:Looks really good bud. Only thing I would suggest is to stagger your starts and stops on the multipass welds. Don't stop all of your stringers in the same spot on the fillers or cap then pick up and finish them out. Run one up to (this is purely for example) to 4 o'clock the next up to say 2 o'clock and so on. That way you cover your starts and stops up and tie them in all the way around the work piece. Good luck on your test tomorrow.1973 Lincoln SA 200, Already replaced shunt coils, Idle board (SOLD)1984 Miller Dialarc 250HF, Miller water cooler, 250 AMP water cooled torch, you know the worx.
