Just wanted some opinions on your favorite tungstens. I'm no pro, but I really like 2% Lanthanated. Seems good on everything with no radiation dust to worry about with grinding. The only problem is its expensive and tough to find. The 1.5% seems much more available. Do you see a dfference between the 1.5 and 2%?Ceriated seems cheaper and more available. How do you feel it compares with Lanthanated? Also, again no pro here, but I fing Thoriated makes an easier start and nicer arc on DCEN. Reply:I use 2% lanthanated as well. I can't get them local, so it takes a little more planning. I get them here. The prices are less than 2% thoriated and 2% ceriated from cyberweld. You can do a quick search on eBay for the other sizes offered from Tungsten Direct.1/8" - http://www.ebay.com/itm/1400967608913/32" - http://www.ebay.com/itm/150385909779Hope that helps!

Reply:Endlessly sharp? Also the kind that cant dip into the puddle.Might just be the kind other people buy. Really depends on the machine and the material.
Reply:I have found that lanthalated gives me better results and handles higher amperage better than ceriated. I have tried some of the tri-mix specialty electrodes but for the money the 1.5-2% lanthalated seem to be the best yet for both steel and aluminum for me. Ceriated dont seem to handle AC as well and Thoriated I just dont use, they tend to spit on AC for me, The other mixes work well but cost too much and you cant get them locally so I dont use them other than to try something new
Reply:i dig 2% thoriated for welding boiler tubes and most steel and lanthanated for everything else... just what i likeAaron Olsonmiller dynasty 200dx

Reply:Yup, 2% lanthanated on my inverter tigs is best for alum. Reply:Oops, my first link was for 1/16" electrodes, not 1/8". Sorry about that. I don't have any experience with the 1.5% lanthanated, so I can't comment on that.

Reply:When I was using on a transformer machine I used 2% Thoriated for pretty much everything. Now that I have an inverter, my go to tungsten is 1.5 or 2% Lanthanated. I still like using 2% Thoriated for low amperage DC work.

Reply:I find that as far as brands go I'm a Sylvania fan.Made in the USA. I'll take ceriated first then lanthanated. I've also got some old brown zirconium that is pretty sweet. My welder at home is a Miller Dynasty.
Reply:Originally Posted by GambleMine is an inverter.
Reply:Sylvania has been in the tungsten business a long time and definitely is in the tops for quality and consistency (light bulbs use a tungsten wire filament, sylvania does make some of the best bulbs out there) I like the weldcraft ones as well, a little cheaper
Reply:The kind that fits in the torch it's..usually red.
Reply:Originally Posted by travisc454I hate red on my inverter for aluminum. I know a lot of people use it but i don't see how (on AC). I once ran out of orange and had to use red. Couldn't finish the project had to stop until i could get some more orange because it was a night and day difference in arc consistency. All the welds that i did with red were unacceptable to my standards. Do you have a transformer or inverter?...Ive never used red on a transformer, maybe it works better.
