Hi There,Hi There,I am new to these forums and just started getting an issue with my 110 MIG welder (Dayton).I was using it for a while with no problems and then a couple times had a problem with the wire was not feeding properly out of the tip and after opening the box up it appeared to be the wire misfeeding, so I pulled the tangled wire out and reset and adjusted the spool tension and wire feed tension and kept using the welder fine for a while, but it happened again and now the welder won't even put out any heat or do much of anything.I tried setting it up multiple times and the wire feeds just fine through to the end of the gun to get it setup but as soon as I try to start a weld, no heat/electricity seems to come out and the wire melts and breaks into two right between the wire feeder and where the gun liner starts in the welding box???I'm puzzled what would cause this?Thoughts?Chris
Reply:Sounds to me like your welding unit itself has become the ground. I would open it up (unplugged, if you are comfortable) and inspect the ground lead to be sure the insulation didnt get worn through somehow.
Reply:Check the spool also- if any part of the wire touches the case you'll get similar results.Could be the liner- my Passport was doing that and I had to replace the liner. Reply:Well, I figured it out, pretty simple. Thanks for the feedback it helped me figure it out.Part of the (I think its brass?) housing that appears to connect the gun line to the main power source was loose. The entire gun housing had worked its way loose and pulled away so there was no electrical connection. It appears that there is no real positive locking/clamping way to keep it there either, bad design (basically like a slip/press fit right now).Anyways thanks for the help much appreciated. |
