Quick question I've searched for stick out but haven't really come across the topic if stick out in relation to the nozzle. In mig should I be running a recess too in relation to the nozzle ? Or should my tip me flush with nozzle end ?General consensus is in spray and pulse 1/8 recess. Just wondering if I should be swapping nozzles ThanksMiller 350PMiller 30AHobart trekHTP Invertig 221
Reply:I have found some people will keep the nozzle flush with the end of the contact tip for spray transfer. When they run the correct stickout of 3/4 inch they will lose gas occasionally. When they ask me the nozzle position is the first thing I check. I set my nozzle about 1/4 inch past the contact tip when using 3/4 stickout. Having the nozzle flush or a bit back is fine for short circuit transfer where you stickout can be as little as 1/4 inch. I am trying to avoid exact distances since stickout has an affect on amperage at the weld. The welder can fudge things by moving closer or pulling back. I prefer nozzles that can be slipped forward and back... Others like the fixed position since they only do one type of transfer.
Reply:Down load Lincolns MIG Guide. It has a small section on stickout.
