Hi,At the bottom a WPQR there is a statement that states the test meets the requirements of say AWS D1.1 1988.I always wondered if a company that qualifies it's own welding procedures and certifies it's own welders to that procedure needs to keep to changing the date on the bottom of the WPQR every time a new code book comes out or keep the year that the procedure was qualifiedThanks,
Reply:Did you keep the coupons and reports?Weld like a "WELDOR", not a wel-"DERR" MillerDynasty700DX,Dynasty350DX4ea,Dynasty200DX,Li ncolnSW200-2ea.,MillerMatic350P,MillerMatic200w/spoolgun,MKCobraMig260,Lincoln SP-170T,PlasmaCam/Hypertherm1250,HFProTig2ea,MigMax1ea.
Reply:AWS D1.1 has address that subject in every edition which I am familiar with as does ASME Section IX. Short answer is no if after 1992. Long answer depends on the a multitude of variables in certain situations.
Reply:Paragraph 4.3.1 of AWS D1.1:2010Qualification to Earlier Editions.Qualifications which were performed to and met the requirements of earlier editions of AWS D1.1 or AWS D1.0 or AWS 2.0 while those editions were in effect are valid and may be used. The use of earlier editions shall be prohibited for new qualifications in lieu of the current edition, unless the specific early edition is specified in the contract documents.Experience is something you get right after you need it |
