Got my vice cobbled together today in about an hour its ugly but it works, and I have dubbed it fugly. So sorry to say, here it is.....Holding it in the air to test how strong it will hold. And no I didn't weld it in shorts and canvas shoes, I took the pictures a little while ago, way after I made this. Oh and sorry, forgot record amps, but it was with my hobart stickmate and 6013's.Thanks,-Zach"I want to die peacefully in my sleep, like my grandfather.. Reply:The proof is in the function. It looks like it works. What did you do for the end of the threaded rod to allow it to swivel? Or does the nut simply push against the jaw?

Reply:Went ahead and took them before bed. Is this what you mean by swivel? It does that because I cut a rectangular hole to run the rod through, because I don't have a drill bit large enough, which allows a little bit of play.-ZachLast edited by thecaveman; 10-07-2012 at 02:52 AM."I want to die peacefully in my sleep, like my grandfather.. Reply:Well I think that we must remember that this is a youth thing. How old are you zach? (Cause I remember when I built stuff like that. I was in my teens and twenties and had NO money and lots of Enthusiasm). Zach it is ugly and the threaded rod wont last long and some other stuff BUT it's good you got interested and made the effort. If you stay with it, your projects will prob get alot better, and when your really old (like me) and look back you will have a smirk on your face I guantee it. Reply:I picked up an old "jammed" vice I'm restoring to working condition, and found the main threaded rod (with acme threads) was bent. Anyway, I was surprised at how strong that threaded rod was - it took a LOT of force to re-bend it straight. Must be high carbon / alloy steel, I figure...
Reply:Dont leave your cow stuck in the ditch just because its the Sabbath good job you Neanderthal now go learn something in church and get back and weld something!
