I can't remember > Which is used for general welding -and the other is for ---gas welding which number or size??/ bob s thanks
Reply:.030 and .035 are wire diameters.  What are the other numbers on the spools?
Reply:Its just copper coated wire?? both of them we chopped a merc top on the w/s posts wei gas welded [10 years ago]them. with a small torch . where as i'm used to welding with???? for all other forms of welding on the car . Gas welding proves to be stronger for  wind resistance.A -PILLARS B-PILLARS.c-pillars Does that help???there wasn't any other numbers, the sizes determined the capability in welding the pillars?? any help  bob s

Reply:Not one bit.
Reply:One size is for use with a small torch./or it works better with a small torch.........the other ,is for general welding of anthing. I think one roll was smaller than the other.before long i'll have it figured out by the explaining i'm doing . Does this fit ones train of thought?,....or what would you say is the differnce between these two gauges and how would---you--- use each one?? I might get it from there. thank you  bob s                      as per usual typos are free.Last edited by bsa_bob; 03-17-2012 at 07:24 PM.
Reply:It sounds like what you have is a couple spools of MIG wire but you used them with a torch? An oxy/acetylene torch?  Do you have a MIG welder? I am confused.
Reply:I think Scott was trying to find out what kind of wire each was. You didn't even say if one or both is made of steel. Did you really mean " .030 " and " .035 "  diameter wire? If so, maybe they're for tying the stems of cut flowers together or for weaving into material from which to make the 'beanie' worn by those sitting in an electric chair. Possibly even for MIG.  On the other hand, if you meant 30 caliber for the ".30" designation and if it's lead, then it may be for cutting cores used when swaging bullets.Best suggestion I can give is take some time posting and remember that we don't know your situation so you have to think it out carefully before submitting it.
Reply:If it was stainless steel wire, you could use it for tyiny up the legs on the Thanksgiving turkey.  I'd recommend the smaller wire for a small bird, the larger wire for a large bird.Going to be pretty hard to keep even heat on the bird with a small torch though.Syncro 250 DX Dynasty 200 DXMM 251 w/30A SG XMT 304 w/714 Feeder & Optima PulserHH187Dialarc 250 AC/DCHypertherm PM 1250Smith, Harris, Victor O/ASmith and Thermco Gas MixersAccess to a full fab shop with CNC Plasma, Water Jet, etc.

Reply:You guys are right. My posting at times leaves a lot to be desired. Then again "the cat ran someth-"---what does that mean.?.030 and .035 thoudsanths. and yes they are on spools .one is a large wooden spool . ant the other a quite a bit smaller plastic spool. They fit my Lincoln 1200 mig welder.. I hope this is better,,,,,also it is just steel wire .....both odf them. We used this !----and the guy helping me @that time likes using the finer gauge wire .My small torch.purchased for him @at that time ,this torch being what he wanted to work with  thank you for the help    bobs
Reply:Well... they can both be used for general welding. What it sounds like is that you have a larger 12" spool of .035" 70s-6 carbon steel mig wire. Use that with 75/25 shielding gas. The other wire I assume is a smaller 8" spool of .030" 70s-6 carbon steel mig wire. Use that also with 75/25 shielding gas but for thinner materials. The .035" wire is a good size wire, you can turn  your machine down and weld some thinner materials, say 1/16" or so, and also thicker materials, say 1/4" (depending on output of your machine). The smaller wire comes in handy when doing bodywork or some thin sheet metal/ gauged material. They can both be used on plain old carbon steel with the same gasses, so I guess use your smaller "torch"/gun with the smaller wire (assuming it has .030 liner in it), and your larger one for the bigger wire. Check your drive rolls that put tension on the wire by the feeder and see what size they are rated for... you might need smaller roller for the .030, but who knows, it could very well work fine, just not be perfect. Hope this helps some, this thread sure got confusing fast... dont know what people were thinking.            Doug.
