Anyone ever tried welding a woman's wedding ring to an engagement ringwith a tig?I realize that gold is an incredible conductor but could they be tacked or betteryet welded with a tig successfully? I'm fairly sure that jewelers use a specialized oa tip (I really don't have a clue) but, can it be done and/or has it been done with a tig?I'm not interested in ruining anybodies *bling*, especially her's!Whadda ya think, better yet, whadda ya know? How do you know the blacksmith's dog? When you hollar at him he makes a bolt for the door!
Reply:As an update... and a very recent one. I've already got a "shut up", "wtf are you thinking?", and "your lucky she let you buy the damm welder in the first place" as some responses from those that were here when I posted that ^^^^^^How do you know the blacksmith's dog? Reply:I have managed to stay married to the same woman for 40 years.I can weld a fart underwater, but no way would I touch any of her jewelry.Do yourself a favor and take to a jeweler.
Reply:That's Freekin Funny!I figured that'd be the consensus. How do you know the blacksmith's dog? When you hollar at him he makes a bolt for the door!
Reply:But if I were determined to be a complete idiot and continue thisresearch.....Seriously,Has it been done or can it been done with a tig?How do you know the blacksmith's dog? When you hollar at him he makes a bolt for the door!
Reply:Well, you better tell her up front that it's GONNA HURT AND MAYBE BURN A LITTLE !

Reply:On a serious note though, I believe that when the jeweler attaches them together, they use a high dollar silver solder. So it's a brazed joint.
Reply:Actually gold solder, a eutectic of gold, silver, and copper. No "specialized" O/A tip needed, just a small one.Considering the value of jewelry and marriages, I'd still take it to a jeweler. JohnA few weldersA lot of hammersA whole lot of C-clamps
Reply:birdwell4 you are correct....
Reply:I'd like to know how well tig would work also. Looks to me like if you  could weld em on the inside, and , if TIG is a viable way to weld gold, it would be a good way to goSafety 3rdGump
Reply:If you ATTEMPT this project and FAIL, you will then be looking for advice on how to weld up a broken marriage
Reply:then you would be CON - FUSED !
Reply:I can tell you how to weld your weding ring to a snap on wrench... it involves replacing a starter... and not disconecting the battery.... miller 330a bp TIGmiller dynasty 200DX TIGmillermatic 185 MIGthermal dynamics cutmaster 101 plasma cuttersnap-on YA5550 plasma cutterhypertherm powermax 30 plasma cutterbaileigh CS225 cold sawetc....
Reply:Gold is way too soft to TIG. It has one of the lowest melting temps. But if ya do it and ya mess up.... well its  for youMy hood and I... Till death do us part

Reply:.....any yep, the op is reading all of these posts....interesting discussion.....I still can't find anyone who has done it. Bakers gas site is really the only mention that I can find that says gold can be tig welded.....with the exception of some micro welding stuff. For the record though... SHE has made it clear that I amnot going to learn it. Not on her rings, or any of my stuff (thatI don't wear), or even a piece of steel that looks gold in color. How do you know the blacksmith's dog?
