Pipeline CWI

I have a friend who is a pipeline welder and he has been telling me how badly they need CWI's out on the pipelines. I am considering getting into it but I would just like to get a little bit more information from someone who has been there. I took my CWI in 2012, passed, but I am still a CAWI for another 6 months or so due to needing 3 years in the field for it to change over to CWI. I graduated in 2012 with a Welding Engineeing bachelors and an associates in welding technology and have been working as an engineer since. I am not a sit at the desk kind of guy and figure as young as my carer is why not go play on the pipelines for a bit. Will they hire a CAWI or will it be best to wait until my credentials change. Also will my degrees help in getting a job out there as a CAWI vs CWI? Any info/advice is appreciated, thanks all
Reply:Your best bet is to get in contact with a few companies that do pipline work and see what you can negotiate, they may look at your credentials and decide that they'd be willing to let you get experience with them, or they might not, if they say they're only interested once you've got your CWI, then that's your answer, but you won't know unless you ask.
