STICK - TIG machine question for electronics guru's

Asked this question on another forum but no answers as of now. I have a Syncrowave 200 as shown below. There have been times when I've been stick welding various thicknesses on the bench and the bead I was laying would come up on a thinner area and I'd have to get up and turn down the amps. So........ I thought it would be very nice to be able remotely lower the amps without stopping it the middle of a bead. Being a hobby welder and always thinking outside the box, I decided to reverse the the leads for DCEP and leave the machine in the tig mode and use the pedal. This made it very interesting, since the HF start made it so I didn't have to strike the arc, and I was able to back off the pedal a little as things got a little to hot. Question: Can you do harm to the machine doing this? You never know with these electronics.  I decided to only do about a half a stick before I researched it more. Reply:have no actual experience with syncrowaves, but can't you use your pedal in the stick mode? various other welders have this option.if yours only uses HF for starting, there shouldn't be any worries about what you are doing. If it's a continuous HF system, I might wonder about the metallurgical properties of your base material, as elevated frequencies (100-1000 Hz) are used for grain refining, but I have no ideas what several kHz would do to regular steel. I probably wouldn't worry that much, I'd guess, as some grain refinining is a positive property.
Reply:Have you tried running it in stick mode with the remote on? I think my sync 250 will do this but i haven't tried it yet. That would eliminate your HF start.
Reply:Tried the stick mode button to on. It disabled the pedal. I don't believe I needed to reverse the leads since I had the lever selected to stick, DCEP. The mode button is selected to TIG, to enable the pedal. Reply:I've done it with my Squarewave, just for ****s and giggles.   Just put my stinger in place of the tig torch, selected DC+ and went at it.   It was kinda cool starting a 7018 with HF!
