My take on a welding table / work bench,

This was the bench I had been using.  It was in the garage I tore down when I bought the house.  I bolted my maternal grandfather's Columbian to it and just used it.After buying my Millermatic 180 I thought my first project should be a bench.  I decided I did not need a 1,000 lb tank like some guys have but I did want something much more than the junk you can get from Sears / Craftsman.I went with 1/8" x 2" x 2" for the frame and a 1/4" top.  Also a bit if expanded metal for a shelf.I have two pretty good size counters in the shop so the bench didn't need to be huge.  It is 28" x 48" and counter top high.  I welded a nut to the bottom of each leg with a bolt for leveling feet.  The wheels are not the exact ones I want but measure out the same so I will swap them out when TSC gets the steel ones I want back in stock.I spray bombed the vise and radiused that corner.Detail of the area under the vise.It is easy to move around with a floor jack yet isn't on shaky casters.  I won't be welding on it up against the wall, this is just where I park it.  I will be putting a chunk of angle on the wall as a sort of chair rail to prevent damage when parking it.Built some perches for grinders and mig gun.One of my next projects is replacing that gawdawful cart that came with the Miller.  I can't believe they sell such a POS.Thanks for looking.Gorilla tapeZip tiesJB weld

Reply:I replaced the itty bitty casters on the front of my miller mig cart w/ larger ones. Rolls a lot easier now. That is a fine lookin' job, congrats!!!! Reply:A bit late now, but if you move the vise forward so the rear jaw lines up with the front of the bench, you can stick long items down the front of the bench to hold them. The nice radiused corner would allow you to swivel the vise as needed and still do this. My guess from the look is that you wanted the bolts for the vise to catch the main tube for support.Nice job though. Very clean and neat,.No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:Thanks guys.  I was a bit surprised at just how square I was able to make it.  The top was cut by the supplier and is a bit off though...  more of a quadrilateral than a rectangle.My first attempt at building something with steel turned out far better than anything I could ever build with wood.Gorilla tapeZip tiesJB weld
