So as you know I also work in a gelatine plant, this is the sister to our "super kettle" basically we boil bones to make gelatine. The bottom halfThe top sectionNext postDisclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."

Reply:Man, you could cook up one h*ll of a pot of gumbo with that.  Would need a dumptruck full of rice, though....
Reply:This is some cool crap! Does the fabricator of the pot do the install? I would think that process does smell. I used to haul for a company and would have to pass a fat rendering plant on the way. Talk about the most repulsive smell on a hot summer day! It would even penetrate the cab with the windows up and the A/C on recirculate and shut off, while driving by."Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!! I sent him over to snag that MIC-4 while tbone wasn't looking!" - duaneb55"I have bought a few of Tbone's things unlike Stick-Man who helps himself" - TozziWelding"Stick-man"
Reply:The final boil is not bad, the process starts with the bones being acidulated, then limed, then washed, then boiled. On the other hand Atlantic Gel down in Woburn is a pig hide plant that makes Jello, you can smell them a mile away.Last edited by TozziWelding; 11-11-2012 at 01:49 PM.Disclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."
Reply:It would be interesting to see the facility. More times than not, we show up to rig it into the building (if it's going inside) and the doors are 12'w x 16'h (if we're lucky), or there's no place for the craine on the outside.  Seems to be a common oversight with the engineering folks.Wonder what the permits are going to cost to transport the parts?
Reply:Millrat, I played that game before, but now I am settled down at this place, and have the flexibility to do my thing as well. The vessel came out of Maine so it was only a 150 mile trip. They are taking the roof off the existing structure and craning it in next to it's brother. I will get pis of the area it is going in to tonight. The plant is over 100 years old, so "surprises" happen even with the best laid plans when doing stuff like this. This should be smooth and painless, all the prep is done, all we need to do is drop this in and tie it in to the plant.Disclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."
Reply:Tozzi, Sounds like it worked out better for you. Being as you're not installing, you have an advantage........... it's more fun to watch than do.

Reply:Never really wanted to kill em'................ just go away! That really stinks, especially with sprinklers (no pun intended). Did you have the driver back up just to be sure?   Any damage to equipment?Last edited by millrat; 11-11-2012 at 02:43 PM.Reason: omission
Reply:Yes the driver did a thorough job, no damage, just a production loss of 4 hours.Disclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."
Reply:That's the biggest deal in construction. They don't want to turn them off to start with. Delays in the schedule become nightmares for everyone. Chargebacks to the contractor?
Reply:We just threw more work at them and told them to do it right and did what we tell them to do, so far so good. We, (the plant crew), usually tests everything before it goes online with production. This vessel and it's systems will undergo trials, and dialing in before it gets turned loose to the production monkeys.Disclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."
Reply:"turned loose to the production monkes". I like that. They're sometimes the ones that keep you buisier than need be. Dont wanna really work today, guess I'll just throw the [monkey] wrench into it.Is it going to have a swizzle stick or two in it?
Reply:No, because as it cooks from the bottom up, the bone melts and the gel is "continually extracted". It has a redirc pump and a bunch of other good stuff too. I will get pix of the existing unit tonight. Don't get me started on production, when they f up your there best friend, but will be the first to stab you in the back if they "need"(I use that term loosely) something and you don't do it......Disclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."

"Yeah, I think more than the two of us have walked that sreet. I've worked in production facilities all over the country, that being the most common thread with the maint people.
