Have been wanting to build a custom wagon for my son since before he was born 2 1/2 years ago. I am using an old wheel barrow and a Radio Flyer 90. I made a custom tube frame from 3/4" sch. 40 pipe. and layed a red wood tongue and groove bed.Needs:tie rods and steering set upgonna line the inside of the bed sides with new sheet metalSeal the woodprep and paintMy inspiration is between T-Buckets, early 30's hot rod trucks, and Rat RodsPaint scheem is going to be a modern Satin Black base with Bright Green accents and striping.

Reply:Looks good, are you building it with the thought of adding a engine to it when he gets a bit older?
Reply:Looks like it could be of great use to him Well done.___________________________________www.sawblade.com
Reply:Thanks guys! No plans of adding an engine. I am in the drafting stages of building a long travel sand rail that is ~112"-115" wheel base and has 2 bucket seats in the front and a small bench that can fit 2 kids or 1 adult in the back and powered by a Hayabusa. When the boy gets old enough I will build him a trophy cart built for the sand probably powered by either a trx250r engine or a new age four stroke like a 450 or a raptor 700 engine. In the mean time he has his quad and wagon to ride.

Reply:Awesome wagon. What are you using for wheels? The front look like box dolly or hand truck wheels, but what are the back wheels? Can't wait to see the finished pics.Great job!
Reply:That's cool, you nailed the rake/stance and wheels. You're not just making a cart, you're making memories. He'll be talking about this for decades to come. Good job Dad!If you don't want to stand behind our Troops, feel free to stand in front of them.
Reply:I've always wanted one like that........well one with a Big Ole Briggs on it anyway Looking great....keep us posted on the progress
Reply:The rear wheels and tires are Goodyear Double Eagle golf cart tires on GBC polished aluminum wheels. I bought them for my quad about 9 years ago when I made my quad street legal... used em once and they have sat here since then. I finally found the perfect use for them. The front Tires are just some of the cheapo Harbor Freight 10" pnuematic wheels and tires. I used a 3" piece of 3/4" pipe and 1/2" cut washers welded on each open end with a 1/2" rod for the pivot shaft with a 5/8"x3" bolt for the spindles and a 1/4"x1" strap metal for the steering tab and knuckles. I used a Harbor Freight pipe bender that my father-in-law bought me for christmas last year not knowing there was a difference between a pipe and tube bender but I have put it to good use any way and would never burst his bubble, especially over a tool that I can make useful. |
