Reply:This was a Practice piece. The instructor handed me 4 rods of 7024 and said run it and see what happens... (was using 7018 prior).That picture was like bead #2 out of 6 total.The weld that you're seeing is stacked, but the reason it looks like its cracked is the stupid lighting in the shop. (SUCKS for trying to do any critical viewing)
Reply:Yep, Slag peeling up, in my opinion, means, your arc length, travel speed, and amperage are set right....7018 will do it, if your "perfect"....7024 and 7014 sometimes look like crap while your welding, but you flip up your helmet, it looks real good.But sometimes the slag curls up, but the weld is not the best....Just a couple welders, big hammers, grinders, and torches.Work will free you.Men in dirty jeans built this country, while men in clean suits have destroyed it.
