Welding Related Careers with lots of questions

I honestly have been looking into changing from welding to something else but I still want to be associated with welding so is their a school that could teach you how to repair welding machines? Is anyone a welding representative for a company like Lincoln or Miller? if so how hard is it to become a welding representative? Reply:Metal sculpture is fun and can be profitable... You'd be surprised at what you will come up with... Check out http://www.browndogwelding.com. If you know a thing or two about Electronics its necessary with working on Welders. These newer Welders I think usually just get parts swapped though... Hey, a job is a job, but I wouldn't think it would be that profitable unless you were a factory authorized service center and the work was directed to you.

Reply:It may actually be more like AC/DC schooling at a tech school, then push through the industry towards your ultimate goal like most other things.
Reply:I agree with StoppedDown... You would want knowledge of industrial electronics. I took an appliance repair course a few years back and with my welding background I can troubleshoot most common welders. But I don't have any experience with these newer inverter style welders and I am not an electrician nor do I claim or want to be. Watching the miller welder techs fix welders in the facility I work in, most of the issues are code based and the repair techs know what's wrong based on the error codes or flashing lights... There are some great repair techs out there, but some of the guys we use don't have anymore experience than geek-squad does fixing your flat screen tv. They swap parts until it works... Our in-house Electricians won't work on them if they can get the Miller guys to do it...
