I am interested in having a height adjustable computer desk built for me. Off the shelf adjustable desks are available, but I don't like them because they seem flimsy. http://www.officesnapshots.com/2012/...-and-kill-you/ to get an idea of what I'm talking about.I want a desk that is solid. I have a monitor arm http://www.lcdarms.com/products/LCD_...rms/iLift.html that needs to be very solidly mounted. I find my monitor shaking when I type to be very distracting. Here is what I was thinking. I would like a work surface of 36"x66". I would prefer a heavier desk to a lighter one. I want the desk to adjust from 26" high to 46". I want the desk to be extra rigid. I would like the work surface to be relatively thin, although this isn't a huge constraint (one and a half inches thick at the max) possibly with a metal frame that supports a wood piece. I would prefer a hydraulic jack to an electric motor to lift the desk.So far as construction goes. I was thinking 2"x2" tubing for the base, with two solid 2x2 posts for the slide. I would like the slide to have some type of cam lock that locks it solidly, precision of the guides wouldn't be a huge requirement. I would also like the base to stay completely under the work surface. with an H-base I would want the crossbar to be approximately 24 inches back. What would it cost to have a welder fabricate such a table for me? What other questions should I be asking?
