Milling around my county for yardsales, saw one guy selling a small acetylene tank. The type for those porta torch oxyfuel kits. Pretty beat up paint and ding wise, but other than that ok. Had the valve stem but no guage. Last hydro date was 11/04. Seemed maybe half full. Guy wanted $20 for it. I left to go scope out a few more yards, cane back and it was gone. Getting it home on my bike woulda been a beach .Do you guys think it was a good deal or not? Just want to see how hard I should kick myself later. Reply:I think what you were describing was an MC cylinder. If so the deal was so so. New with fill they run about $50 looking at my last sale flyer from GTS Welco. $20 plus a fill would probably save you some, but not much. Also the valve is a different CGA fitting than a "standard" acet reg in the medium duty sets. You need to add an adapter and the volume of those little cylinders are useless for anything other than soldering really. I have one that I picked up with a bunch of torch parts, but never really bother to use it. I keep saying I'll dig out the Acet reg that came with it and set up a small soldering rig to keep on the truck FT, but I always grab the big set if I have any soldering to do.I wouldn't loose much sleep over that "deal"..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size.
