I'm a newbie at tig and I have a pretty general question. I have a gas lense and I've been having a hard time coming up with a reason not to use it. Aside from not spending the extra money for a gas lense in the first place when you don't need it, if you do have one why would you ever change it out for a regular setup?
Reply:If you happen to weld something that may have embedded crud, the puddle might "spit up" and clog the stainless steel wire mesh inside the gas lens collet body. Too much crud and it might impede the smooth gas flow rending part of the benefit of the gas lens non-beneficial. 1st on WeldingWeb to have a scrolling sig! Reply:I always keep one on as well. Cheap insurance. Only time I change out tips to reach into acute angles when the lens is just a little to fat to fit. |
