I need to mount these fenders on a trailer similar to the one in the second picture. Any suggestion for mounting them would be appreciated. Attached ImagesMiller Multimatic 215
Reply:First thought would be to weld them on. Or you could bolt them to the angle iron frame, in case you may want to remove them later to do some work on the trailer.
Reply:As you can see from the second picture the fenders have a back added so you need to either weld or rivet a back to it, then you can use this backplate to bolt onto the trailer
Reply:Personally I would add the backing to the fender and pin the fender to the trailer so if need be they can be pulled off to get in or out of a low car.Similar to the one below. Personally I make a door hinge looking deal with a removable pin.
Reply:Thanks for the suggestions. I think I will go with suggestion VPT made as the ability to remove them might come into play at times.Miller Multimatic 215
Reply:You can usually buy the backing plate where you buy the fenders. It is nice because the fit is pretty good on them. I would also put a stiffener from the backing plate to the top of the fender. You weld this between the the tandem tires. Those fenders are pretty thin and will bend if you spend a little time walking on them. I weld little triangles on the outside bottom corners of the fenders and attach them to the main frame of the trailer.
Reply:If your trailer is like the one in the picture and has the upper rail there would be no need to make the fenders removable as you will still have the rail in the way even if you take the fenders off. Also, add a center brace in the fender between the tires. Someone will eventually step in the middle of the fender and bend it.
