My buddy is bidding on a custom iron fence/railing/porch job and asked me to help, if he gets it. I don't know all of the details yet, but he said I will need my suitcase feeder. How do you mobile weldors transport your feeders? Do you take the gun off every day? I will be putting it in the gang box, but I still see chances of damage if I were to leave the gun attached, like a liner getting kinked or stress on the back end. I hardly use it away from the shop, so in the past I just left it on and was careful.Stupid question, but I was just wondering what you guys do."Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!! I sent him over to snag that MIC-4 while tbone wasn't looking!" - duaneb55"I have bought a few of Tbone's things unlike Stick-Man who helps himself" - TozziWelding"Stick-man"
Reply:I don't have a suitcase feeder but if the whip could be damaged I would remove it.Leo
Reply:Sticky, my 12RC with 15' Roughneck 300A or 400A gun fits in the job box on my truck with the gun attached, no problem.  I just coil the gun up in a 24" circle or so.  I do the same thing with the gas hose and flowmeter on the back end.  I hate disassembling any more than I have to - it is heavier that way, though.
Reply:We have a number of these at my shop. They hold up pretty well. Nobody ever takes the guns off when they take them out to the field and these guys are hard on equipment. As long as your not reckless you'll be fine.
Reply:i keep mine in the back of my xterra with the whip attached all the time never had any problems miller 12vsLincoln Power Arc 4000 Thermal Arc Fabricator 252 iThermal arc 186Thermal Arc 26 tigTweeko 200 amp spool gunHobart AirForce 400WP-17V-12R
Reply:Don't have a suitcase feeder but move my mig a lot, and I do pull the gun every time (especially when its raining and I need to steal my wife's caddie instead of taking my pickup).  Euro quick connect is the way to go.  My machine is an Esab Migmaster 251.
Reply:I just leave it on and coil the cable around the handle.
Reply:Mine has been rattling around in the in a compartment of my welding rig for two years now complete ready to go. One word of advice.  Put a nice thick towel between the spool and the inside of the box when you put it back in the truck.  It will keep the spool from unwinding in the side the feeder preventing a total disaster.Lincoln 300 Vantage 2008300 Commander 1999SA250 1999SA200 1968Miller Syncrowave 200XMT350MPA/S-52E/xr-15Xtreme 12vs Millermatic 251 w/30A  Millermatic 251 Dialarc 250 Hypertherm 1250 GEKA & Bantom Ironwokers
Reply:I leave the whip on. LN-25  Never a problem.  My newest suitcase is a Passport.   Gun stays on and stows in the pouch provided.    I have a piece of styrofoam I have used to keep the roll in place when traveling.  It can unwind and make a mess.DavidReal world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.

Reply:Well thanks guys, I guess I'll just leave the gun attached. My gang box is large so it should be ok. Like I said, stupid question, I was just wondering what everyone else does."Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!! Reply:suitcase 12rc and ln-25 here. They don't go out all too often, but I never take the gun off. Then again, I'm always the one putting it away. Take a good look at anyone else who will be taking stuff out of the box, and that should give you an idea of what to do.IW Local 580 NY, NY
Reply:Mine gets shoved in and out of the front box on my service truck day in and day out.  never had a single problem.   I would be worried more about taking the gun off and on and wearing out the adapter than i would ever be by leaving it on.Vantage 500's LN-25's, VI-400's, cobramatics, Miller migs, synch 350 LX, Powcon inverters, XMT's, 250 Ton Acurrpress 12' brake, 1/4" 10' Atlantic shear,Koikie plasma table W/ esab plasmas. marvel & hyd-mech saws, pirrana & metal muncher punches.
Reply:Sorry to bring an old thread back, but my Passport is pretty much a suitcase feeder. It took a 45mph head on crash with it banging away in the toolbox, and bouncing clear out of the truck onto the cement to break the liner in the M10 gun. I run a Bernard q300 on it now, and it gets coiled up and put in the bag attached to  the passport without an issue.Miller: 200dx, Bobcat 225, Passport, Powermax 45, Milwaukee: Dry Saw, MagDrill, grinders
Reply:Will add a towel to my suitcase feeder. I am glad you added to your thread.
