Whats the difference between the two? I was looking at them on Milwaukee's website. I need to cut corrugated metal roofing and was told a nibbler would work.
Reply:I have used the sheet metal shears cutting metal studs in commercial work, they work more like regular sheet metal cutters attached to a drill motor for ease of cutting. A nibbler is a little different as it removes a little section of the metal as it cuts and it looks more like a barrel type jig saw. Both can be electric or air operated.I would think on roofing the nibbler would be better because it applys its own relief cut. DavidDavid
Reply:Nibblers work well on SOME roofing profiles, IF you can turn the head sideways to keep the power unit, be it air or electric from binding you up in the cut.Saws work a lot better on roofing, and plasma works best.David pretty much covered the difference between the 2 tools.Appreciation Gains You Recognition-
Reply:I bought a power shear that's supposed to be good up to #18 stainless or #16 steel.  It cuts very nice and very accurate, but it leaves the edge bowed because of distortion during the cut.  I think nibblers eliminate a lot of that.  I second the vote for a plasma.  Once you go plasma, you never go (something that rhymes with plasma but means 'back').
Reply:I have a plasma cutter but I'm working at a job site which has no 230volt outlet.
Reply:I worked for a guy we built a huge storage units the kind you rent by the month we cut all the steel  sideing with a nibbler it worked fantastic once i got the hang of it
