Just curious,  would it be difficult to find someone who was certified to weld weldox 700 in an overhead position in the US (I'm not even sure it would have to be overhead as the pieces would be disassembled)?  A company I know of has been looking recently and claimed they could only find one company who was capable, in Colorado,   but wanted 30k to weld a few cracks in a boom.   So they hired a welder out of Poland and are flying him over here to do the repairs.   This sounds highly unlikely,  but I am not someone "in the trade." Without divulging to much info,  this does happen to be a Crane part. I told the guy I was talking to,  if I posted it here on WW, there'd be someone who could meet the requirements.  From what I've read,  requires a 200 deg. preheat with a 600 deg. maximum interpass temp. What say you?

Reply:"one company who was capable, in Colorado, but wanted 30k to weld a few cracks in a boom."......the above may be reasonable--since there's a hell of a lot more to crane repair than 'just welding up a few cracks'--Pre/post inspection, factory approved repair plan, certification/verification of process prior to the doing, CWI inspectionof the whole deal, probably inspection of the entire boom prior to work, etc., etc.......and have HEFTY liabilityinsurance to boot. 'Cheap' and 'crane repair' should never be in the same sentence.Blackbird

Reply:not all weldox have the same problems , weldox 700 is good to weld .  107_WELDOX_700_UK_Data%20Sheet.pdf
Reply:I wish I could clarify/elaborate more on what I am referring to as crane.  The entire boom arm is less than 30 foot.  This isn't a 300 ton lattice boom track crane.  The most it will ever see is 35,000 lbs.
