Reply:They guy knows what he's got and the price of steel. What he's doing is selling it at about the price of steel if you bought it raw. So in that sense it's not a bad deal. It would cost you about that much to buy the metal plus you'd still have to put it together. Not a great deal, not a bad deal, just a deal. Reply:one of the best investments I ever made for the welding shop is a 5' x 9' machine base that come out of the local Ford plant. 1 1/4" top, skirted with 3/8" x 8", boxed into 10" squares underneath with 3/8" x 8" and Blanchard ground top, $150.00 about 35 years ago. nothing beats having a table that you know is flat.
Reply:This may sound crazy but I usually look at what my return on investment will be. As in even if it was 10k but I could take it and make 20k with it in a couple months then the actual cost is not a factorOn the other hand, that price is ridiculous, give me there name and number so I can call and tell them how bad they are trying to rip you off.  (Sarcastic)

I am going to speak with him tommorwow.I now have to sell my 4x10x.250t, as I am not going to have space for both.So any body looking for a pretty flat steel work surface contact me. Reply:Blanchard grinding something that size is not cheap. my 5x8 table was almost $900 to have ground and not many company can grind that size. So fining a table like the one you are buying is a rare find. There was only a few in the country that could grind the size of mine.Look and see if the top is bolted to the base vs. welded. <-- might affect flatness. See if they ground both sizes of the plate. They should have. They flipped my platen 3 times, grinding both sizes to get it truly flat once they release the magnet that holts the plate to the floor of the grinder.The big green machine in the back was massiveLast edited by Jimmy_pop; 05-19-2014 at 06:09 AM.
