I don't have an overhead crane or anything around the house.  I don't even have a shop.  Just a two car garage and I'm limited on space.  I do like to build smokers and other small projects and in the past I've been limited on what I could work on at home.  I came up with the idea to build this crane for it's occasional use and because i enjoy designing and fabbing small projects.  The tubing is made out of 2x2x1/4" tubing.  This is what I finished up today.  I still have several things to do to it but I ran out of time.  I'm going to put a small outrigger on it that will be adjustable and lock in place with a pin.  I've also got to add the flat strap over the top to keep it from flexing.  Probably doesn't need it but I'll put it on there anyways. It's more of a hobby than a need.  Didn't have anything else to work on and the metal was free.  Only investment I have is the 8 ton jack.
Reply:What kind of outriggers will you use?

Reply:I see problems.....You cant lower your tailgate and use the crane to lift something into the back of your truck.  The crane wont rotate.....

Reply:You'll need to carry a lawn chair with you, that way you won't have to sit on the ground while you supervise and direct its use! Looks like it could be a useful project.Powcon 400SM2-PD60 wire feedersMiller XR controlAlumapro push/pull gunSpeedglas 9100xBFH
Reply:Hi, I think you could also attach a jockey wheel that winds down for when you lift a load to prevent the tail from sagging down. The wheel will also allow you to move the load with the crane attached to the truck.Ian.
Reply:I think that you will be wishing that you had built in a pivot so that you can use it to load your truck.

Reply:Cool idea and nice clean design. My prediction is that you should expect to see a rash of these and variations on the theme  being built here. Reply:Testing it out with a 320 lb tank.  Drove it around the driveway to see how well the wheels worked.  So far so good.  Only a few things left to do. Attached Images
Reply:Super job, Does exactly what its meant to do
Reply:Small addon idea (sorry for crappy pic, it's dark and cold here)Basically 2 short tube pieces, one fits inside the other. Drill 1 hole every 90 degrees. Toss in a pin. You can rotate the wheels to horizontal so you can drive away. The pic is of my leveler/stand at the tongue of my trailer. Love your project tho, might need to duplicate it
