A strange question for you guys, my friend Lance has a MIG welder, non-flux wire, but he turns the gas off so as not to "waste it" on insignificant welding projects. Any thoughts on this practice?

Reply:What would be an insignificant welding project? If it's worth the steel, filler, grinding, paint, electricity, and his time, it's worth the gas.Burt _____________________Miller Syncrowave 250Millermatic 211Miller 375 Plasma Cutter Hobart Handler 12010FtDrillBit.com

Reply:I use bare wire instead of coated stick electrodes when I don't want to waste time chipping off slag.

Reply:That's normal in the Philippines, espically in Manila where everybody is a welder, Even grandma, lol. I see it every year when I visit. People climb the power poles to hook up the wires to rob the city of the electricity. You get about 5-10 power outages a day
Reply:Thanks for the input everyone. I showed this thread to Lance...hahaha....he got mad at first but then came to his senses and tried welding last night with the gas turned on, low and behold it worked! By the way, he keeps calling the gas "spargon". HAHAHAHAHAHAHA WTF is spargon....
Reply:Spargon is Argon in the convenient spray can. Eliminates all those messy hoses and regulators. Not to be confused with Argoff, which is used to remove unsightly welds.

Reply:Believe it or not, you can get Argon in spray cans. It's used to prolong the life of paints and wine.
